Jamie Jon Meyers

New York, NY

Mr. Meyers lives in Manhattan, New York. As a native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, his art works draws from his unique world perspective, experiences, and imagination.

Meyers has developed a style onto his own without any formal art training. Rarely painting with brushes or conventional techniques, he uses instruments of his own design. His works are boldly textured and smooth to the touch, painted in strong deep masculine colors with a minimalist juxtaposition and complementary balance.

As stated by Meyers, my passion is painting, 'In my 18 years of painting abstract art I would have to say that my biggest inspiration and influence is my fascination with physical geography, weather, science and architecture. Its the battle between chaos and structure that I love expressing in my work. My criteria for anything I create is that it is eye-pleasing and evokes emotion and thought while stimulating the imagination. And it should be something that one would want to have showing in their personal space.'

Other facts about jamie

Art is my life, the driving passion behind my work in my
Greenwich Village studio. In addition to my artistic career, I have worked for eight years in corporate sales for a prestigious furniture manufacturer in New York City.

I have had a life long fascination with geography, weather and satellite imagery, architecture, and space sciences. When I started to paint in Washington, DC in 1997, I discovered the great degree of pleasure in taking a canvas and architecting an abstract geographical landscape into many layers. Instead of using paint brushes, I used my hands or other instruments applying acrylic paint on dried gesso, working in accumulating translucent layers of paint. Normally the first layers were earth tones, followed by the various color applications, but my painting style has developed into my own unique voice.

Meyers’ work represents the epitome of untainted art.

Poly Potter said of untainted artists:  “as in all ventures, training, though valuable, is not the key ingredient—not as key perhaps as talent, inspiration, or originality... sometimes what elevates mature work to greatness is perhaps the very oblivion of convention, the freshness of approach, and the depth of discovery that comes from a truly unique perspective.”
